Here at Sleepopolis, we rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the standard for medium-firmness. We assess the firmness and feel of a bed by lying on it in different positions and moving around.
Zinus
The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam mattress has a classic memory foam feel and is a good bed for anyone who wants to feel like they’re in the bed instead of on top of it. With a firmness rating of 5 out of 10, this bed is on the softer side and provides great sinkage.
This bed is great for relieving pressure on joints and problem areas, making it a good option for side sleepers. However, stomach sleepers may suffer from lower back pain with this mattress as the softness lets their hips sink in too far for proper spinal alignment.
Zinus could be a nice choice for anyone who sleeps with a partner or pet. The thickness and soft foam of the mattress are able to dull movement and provide strong motion isolation. If your partner or pet tends to move around throughout the night, this bed could be helpful for ensuring they don’t disturb you.
This bed lacks bounce and responsiveness, so it isn’t the best bed for combination sleepers who need to easily change positions throughout the night. It also isn’t a great bed for S.E.X, as it prevents easy movement.
The edge support on the Zinus mattress isn’t the best, which means it will sag when weight is placed on the sides of the mattress. This may be an issue for couples because it minimizes the amount of space to sleep on.
Additionally, the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam bed isn’t the best cooling bed, but it’s also not the worst. Memory foam beds tend to trap heat and can be difficult to make cooling. Zinus tried to counteract this with the use of ActivCharcoal and green tea extract in the foam, which helps a little, but we still wouldn’t recommend this bed for extra hot sleepers.
Casper
We rate the Casper original mattress a 7 on the firmness scale, slightly firmer than average. The mattress is made of different types of foam and has a zoned support system. This basically means the firmness of the foam used throughout the mattress changes based on which body part lies there and the firmness level that body part needs. For example, the mattress will be softer around the shoulders but firmer around the hips to ensure proper spinal alignment.
The motion isolation on this mattress is decent. Our testers found there is more motion transfer than with the Zinus, but it performs well enough that outside movement from a partner or pet shouldn’t cause a major disturbance.
The Casper is great for anyone desiring a bed that is very responsive. This could be beneficial for combination sleepers who need to easily change sleeping positions throughout the night. It also means this is a good bed for S.E.X as it provides easy movement.

This bed has solid edge support, which can make the bed feel larger. Couples may enjoy this bed because they’re able to use every inch of it and still feel stable and supported.
We recommend this bed for sleepers who sleep hot and need a bed with built-in cooling mechanisms. The Casper is made with a layer of open-cell Airscape foam to maximize airflow and prevent heat from getting trapped.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Zinus and the Casper

Buying a new mattress shouldn’t be stressful, and you should be getting the same stellar service online that you would expect in a store. We rate the customer service of brands based on our own experience with each customer service team. Brands can be rated either stellar, great, satisfactory, or poor.
Zinus Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating
Satisfactory: I’d say the Zinus customer service rating is satisfactory. Their support page lists and answers almost any question you may possibly have about the company and its products. However, I did not find their chat option to be helpful. I tested it by asking a simple question, “Do you have free shipping?” The chat robot did not answer my question but merely responded “did that answer your question?” It did not.
They transferred me to a human to whom I asked the same question. Their “human” just sent me information about an upcoming sale, but no answer about shipping. I gave them another chance a few days later by asking about the differences between two models, but they still did not provide me with any useful information.
But I still say the support system is overall satisfactory because the shipping information is listed on the support page, which is very extensive, and they also have the option for customers to contact them via email or phone. It’s important to note this product can also be found on Amazon.
Casper Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating
Stellar: I found Casper had stellar customer service. I used their chat feature and was connected immediately with a real person who was eager and quick to answer my question “Do you have free shipping?”
She was friendly in all of her messages and made sure I was satisfied and didn’t need any additional help before moving on. Casper also has a lot of resources on their website, like their FAQ page, and that can answer most questions. They’re also available by phone or email.
